Various Health Benefits of Bottle Gourd (Doodhi/Lauki)

When I was a kid mom used to tell me to have bottle gourd (Lauki) in my meal, but I  never liked it until I had developed some heath problems. Then I realized the benefits of this neglected vegetable and started relishing it . Today I would like to share some of the heath benefits of this amazing vegetable. As per researchers bottle gourd is originated in Africa , but today it is cultivated in almost in all tropical regions including India, Philippines, Malaysia and in tropical parts of south America.

There are enormous health benefits of having bottle gourd in your diet.

Good for people who are on low calorie diet – Since it contains 96.1 % water , it is good for people who are on low calorie diet and who wants to get rid of some of their extra weight. So it is highly recommended for people like me.

Helps in curing jaundice- Consumption of bottle gourd helps in overcoming jaundice.

Reduces Thirst - A glassful of plain juice with a pinch of salt should be taken everyday in this condition. Its use during summer prevents excessive loss of sodium, quenches thirst and helps in preventing fatigue.

                          

Urinary Disorder – Bottle gourd is very useful in treatment of urinary disorder.

It should be taken once daily in the treatment of burning sensation in urinary passage due to high acidity of urine. Prepare a glass of fresh juice by grating bottle gourd and then mixing it with limejuice. Drink it once a day to combat the burning sensation caused by the high acidity of urine.

Baldness or Hairfall Problem- It also helps in curing hairfall problem and baldness.

Good for people suffering from insomnia  

Other benefits- Bottle gourd is not only rich in essential minerals, iron, protein and trace elements; it is also rich in fibre. Fibre helps in preventing constipation and other digestive disorders like flatulence and piles.

Ingredients

1 cup of peeled bottle gourd pieces 
9-10 Basil (Tulsi) leaves
5-6 field Field mint (Pudina) leaves
Salt to taste
Black Pepper Powder (1/2 teaspoon)

Method

1.Cut bottle gourd into small cubes.
2. Add all other ingredient in it.
3. Make a juice of it with the juicer
